Bulls & Knights will meet for sixth time on “Black Friday”
TAMPA, NOV. 17 2014 – The University of South Florida and the University of Central Florida will renew their rivalry on the football field on “Black Friday” Nov. 28 at Raymond James Stadium. The post-Thanksgiving clash has been set for a noon kickoff on ESPN2 with forecasts projecting prime football weather with sunny skies and temperatures in the mid-60's.
USF owns a 4-1 lead in the series between two of the largest universities in the nation separated by 90 minutes on Interstate 4. UCF claimed its first-ever victory in the series last season as the No. 17 ranked Knights held off the Bulls in a 23-20 thriller in Orlando. It marked the third meeting in the series with at least one team ranked. USF had been ranked for the previous two, and as high as No. 5 in a 2007 clash.
USF had won the previous four meetings by an average of 20 points, including a 64-12 rout in 2007, the last time the game was played in Tampa. The Bulls have never lost to the Knights in Tampa, also winning 31-14 in Raymond James Stadium in 2005 in the first meeting between the programs.
UCF currently stands tied for second in the American Athletic Conference with a 4-1 conference record and 6-3 record overall. They will host SMU this weekend.
USF (4-6; 3-3 American), tied for sixth in the conference, heads to conference leading Memphis (7-3, 5-1 American) Saturday for a 4:00 p.m. kick on ESPNews. Memphis brings a four-game win streak into the game. USF's three conference wins are its most since 2010 and the Bulls two conference road wins are one shy of the program record set in 2003.
The USF Football program is in its 18th season and 15th at the FBS level. The Bulls have made six bowl appearances, including every season between 2005-10, and have four bowl game victories. USF has produced 14 All-America selections, 23 NFL Draft picks and reached the No. 2 ranking in the Associated Press Poll in 2007.
