TUSCALOOSA, Ala., NOV. 13, 2015 – Senior Michael Babinec completed his USF cross country career with an All-Region performance Friday at the NCAA South Region in Tuscaloosa, Ala.
The Riverview, Fla., native ran a personal-best 10K time of 31:28.23 and finished in 20th place. Babinec's run helped the Bulls finish 17th as a team, their best finish in 10 seasons (13th in 2005).
Junior Alex Main was the next USF runner to cross the finish line and finished in 86th place with a time of 33:03.33. Sophomore John Weaver finished in 97th place with a time of 33:17.34, just in front of freshman Cash Tampa in 101st place at 33:21.45. The fifth runner for USF was freshman Tomas Gimenez-Beron who finished in 135th place with a time of 34:57.73.
“It was a great way for Michael to end his career,” said head coach Dena Reif. “The men wrapped up a solid season. I was really proud with the way they ran.”
For the first time this season, the USF women were led by freshman Jessica Taylor who finished the 6K in 60th place with a time of 21:44.70. Senior Leandra Munson closed her cross country career by placing 73rd with a time of 21:56.45. Junior Catherine Blaney placed 73rd with a time of 22:04.96. Wrapping up the scoring for USF was senior Bethany Evans in 136th place in a time of 22:59.14 and junior Sarah Leary in 163rd place at 23:30.41.
The women finished 16th overall with 483 points.
Dena Reif is in her fourth season as the head coach of USF cross country. The history of USF's women's program consists of five conference and two region championships as well as five NCAA qualifying teams. The USF men's program has produced seven conference championships and three NCAA qualifying teams.
