TAMPA, DEC 8, 2015 – USF's Chelsea Francis and Matthew O'Neal were honored by the American Athletic Conference on Tuesday.
Francis, a freshman from Jacksonville, Fla., was named the American Athletic Conference Female Track Athlete of the Week. The former standout at Atlantic Coast High School won the 60m dash at the GVSU Holiday Open on Friday in Allendale, Mich. She won with a time of 7.56 which tied for the fifth-best time at USF. Also in her collegiate debut, Francis finished sixth in the 200m dash with a time of 25.26.
O'Neal, a senior from Jackson, Miss., was named the American Athletic Conference Male Field Athlete of the Week. The four-time All-American won the triple jump with distance of 51-feet-7 inches (15.72m). He finished nearly six feet better than the second-place finisher, who was at 45-7.75 (13.91m).
USF will next be in action on Jan. 15 at the UAB Invitational in Birmingham, Ala.
Led by 10th-year head coach Warren Bye, the USF track and field team has produced 21 All-Americans (eight men, 13 women) since 2000 and at least one All-American in seven of the last eight years. USF is home to the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary.
