TAMPA, JAN. 6, 2016 – The University of South Florida women's basketball team will play its third game in six days Thursday when it welcomes Southern Methodist for a 7 p.m. night cap. The Bulls are fresh off a 100-point performance Tuesday and are primed to make a run in the second week of conference play.

USF eclipsed the century mark for the second time this season and improved to 8-0 at home this season in a defeat of UCF, 108-63, on Tuesday evening. The Bulls went 36-of-43 from the free throw line and forced 18 turnovers in the win. Kitija Laksa (Riga, Latvia) led the way with a career-high 21 points, including four 3-pointers. Courtney Williams (Folkston, Ga.) provided a balanced effort with 18 points, eight rebounds, five assists and four blocks in 26 minutes of play while Laura Ferreira (Lisboa, Portugal) finished with 18 points, connecting on 11-of-12 attempts from the charity stripe.

The Bulls have only met to the Mustangs five times in program history, their first meeting in 2001. USF is 5-0 against SMU, and 4-0 since the Mustangs joined the American Athletic Conference.

Bulls Bites

·      Laura Ferreira turned in a strong performance against UCF, and continued her streak of scoring at least one three-pointer in a game. The sophomore has gone 14-straight games with at least one three-pointer, a streak that dates back to March 23, 2015.

·      The Bulls set a new program record, collecting 36 free throws on 43 attempts. USF ranks second in the country thanks to a season average of 78.3 percent. USF has shot more free throws than its opponents in all but four games this season. Alisia Jenkins leads the Bulls with an 87.9 free throw percentage.

·      USF is led by Alisia Jenkins with 13.3 rebounds per game this season, and ranks fourth in Division I in her senior season. Jenkins is the current career rebounding record holder for the Bulls, and has collected 1,124 rebounds throughout her four years. The Georgia native is just the second Bull in program history to surpass the 1,000 career rebound mark.

·      Courtney Williams has 1,810 career points, 748 rebounds and 266 assists and looks to become just the second player in program history to surpass the 2,000-point mark. Williams is chasing the USF Career Points leader Jessica Dickson ('07) who ended her four years with 2,402 points. Williams is on pace to become the first USF player to ever post 2,000 points, 800 rebounds and 300 assists.

·      USF ranks in the Top-5 in The American in 19 statistical categories, and leads the league in rebounding. The Bulls average 44.7 rebounds per game, which ranks 17th nationally.

·      USF has limited itself to just 135 turnovers in ten games (13.5 per game), which is the eighth fewest turnovers in Division I.

·      The Bulls are ranked No. 22 in the Associated Press (AP) Top-25 Poll released Monday and No. 18 in the USA Today Coaches Poll released Tuesday. USF has been ranked as highly as No. 18 (AP Poll) and No. 17 (USA Today Coaches Poll) this season; both are the highest rankings in program history.
