AAC Adds USF Baseball to CBS Sports Network Slate

PROVIDENCE, R.I., JAN. 14, 2016 – The American Athletic Conference announced on Thursday that seven conference games in 2016 will appear on CBS Sports Network, including the University of South Florida baseball game at Houston on Sunday, April 24.

AAC Release

The April 24 matchup will feature two teams that reached the NCAA Tournament last season. First pitch at Cougar Field is set for 2 p.m. ET/1 p.m. CT.

“This will be a great opportunity for our team to get great exposure on national television,” said USF head baseball coach Mark Kingston. “Houston is a strong program, so this should add to the luster of the series.”

USF will also have an opportunity to appear on CBS Sports Network again later in the season. The AAC also announced that CBS Sports Network will air the first two conference tournament games in Clearwater, Fla. The May 24 doubleheader features the No. 4 and No. 5 seeds at 3 p.m. ET, followed by the No. 1 and No. 8 seeds at 7 p.m.

The Bulls begin the season on Friday, Feb. 19 with a three-game home series against Liberty University.

The University of South Florida baseball team is one of the fastest rising programs in the country. Under the guidance of first year head coach Mark Kingston, the Bulls reached the NCAA Regionals last season for the first time in 13 years and USF followed that success with a consensus Top 10 recruiting class. The team returns outfielder Kevin Merrell, who was named an NCBWA Freshmen All-American last season after leading the Bulls in batting average (.346), runs (45), hits (83) and stolen bases (21). Senior catcher Levi Borders and senior outfielder Luke Maglich were both named to the 2016 Preseason All-Conference Team in the AAC. The USF Baseball program has won five conference titles and the Bulls have made 11 NCAA appearances.
