TAMPA, JAN. 18, 2016 – The USF women's basketball team continues to reach new heights and Monday afternoon marked the next milestone for the Bulls. In the latest Associated Press Top-25 Poll USF jumped four spots to No. 15, the highest ranking in Program history.
The Bulls went 2-0 last week and improved to 12-4 (5-1 in The American). The Bulls have exploded onto the scene this year, collecting nine 20-plus point wins this season. USF has reached the century mark twice this season, and has picked up key wins over post-season regulars Penn State, Oklahoma State, Butler and Chattanooga.
The Bulls entered the AP Poll for the first time in program history Feb. 9th 2015. It was the 14th week of the Poll, and USF snuck in at No. 25. The Bulls made three other appearances last season, but never climbed higher than No. 25. USF ended the 2014-15 campaign ranked No. 25 in the postseason poll. The Bulls have appeared in the poll for 12 consecutive weeks, dating back to last season.
USF returns to action Wednesday, in the first of a two-game road swing. The Bulls head to Memphis for a tough match-up against the Tigers Jan. 20. The game will air on the American Digital Network. The last time the Bulls appeared on the network, freshman Kitija Laksa delivered one of the programs best performances, scoring a career best 38 points. USF stays on the road Sunday, Jan. 24 when it travels up I-4 to play UCF in a game that will air on ESPNU.
The Bulls continue to climb in the polls, and have reached their highest rankings in program history. USF has been ranked as highly as No. 18 in the Associated Press poll and No. 16 in the USA Today Coaches Poll this season; both are the highest rankings in program history. USF has appeared in both polls every week and placed as highly as No. 11 on some ballots.
USF has made 11 postseason tournament appearances and had three NCAA Tournament berths in Head Coach Jose Fernandez's 15 seasons. The all-time winningest coach in program history, Fernandez has guided USF to six 20-win seasons, two WNIT final four appearances, the 2009 WNIT championship and won more than 260 games.
