TAMPA (Jan. 26, 2016)— After an impressive start to the month of January, senior Roberto Cid was named the men's tennis Player of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday.
Over the weekend, Cid, the 17th-ranked player in the nation, took down two top 25 opponents to help USF seal wins over No. 31 FSU and No. 30 LSU. The Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic native defeated FSU's Benjamin Lock, ranked 15th in the nation, 6-3, 6-1, before topping No. 22 Jordan Daigle of LSU, 7-6, 6-2.
The pair of wins by Cid helped lead USF to its first ever berth in the ITA National Team Indoor Championships.
Cid also took down No. 4 Cameron Norrie of TCU earlier this month at the Three Oaks Shootout. Cid won in straight sets to give him three wins over ranked opponents this month.
In doubles play, Cid went 4-1 with partner Ignacio Gonzalez-Muniz. The pair's only loss came against FSU during the ITA Kick-Off Weekend. Cid and Gonzalez-Muniz topped doubles teams from No. 3 TCU, No. 7 Illinois and No. 29 MSU.
Cid and the Bulls return to action on Friday, Feb. 5, when they travel to Minneapolis to take on the Minnesota Golden Gophers. USF will then travel south to Texas to take on the Texas A&M Aggies Sunday, Feb. 7.
