TAMPA, JULY 29, 2016 – Former USF pitcher Tommy Eveld received one of his top professional accolades this week when he was named a Northwest League All-Star on Tuesday night.
Eveld, in his first season of pro baseball, graduated this past spring at USF where he posted nine saves as the Bulls' closer. The right-hander boasts a 1-1 record for the Hilsboro Hops with a 2.20 ERA and three saves. Opponents are batting just .213 against him this season as the Tampa native is also averaging over a strikeout per inning pitched.
Bobby Eveld Makes Minor League Debut
Tommy's brother, Bobby Eveld, threw in his first minor league baseball game on Tuesday. The righty fired a scoreless inning against the Gulf Coast Yankees in his minor league debut.
Eveld, a former football player at USF, signed with the Toronto Blue Jays this past spring.
Herget Staying At The Top
As we enter the month of August, there is one thing that has not changed - former Bulls pitcher Jimmy Herget still leads the FSL in saves (17).
Herget has also struck out 15 opponents over his last 10 appearances, four of which have been saves. The righty is now 3-3 this year with a 1.61 ERA.

The University of South Florida baseball team is one of the fastest rising programs in the country. Under the guidance of first year head coach Mark Kingston, the Bulls reached the NCAA Regionals in 2015 for the first time in 13 years and USF followed that success with a consensus Top 10 recruiting class. Five players from that recruiting class were everyday starters in 2016 including outfielder Chris Chatfield (Riverview, Fla.), who led the team in home runs. The USF Baseball program has won five conference titles and the Bulls have made 11 NCAA appearances.
