TAMPA, Fla.- Junior left-hander Teddy Kaufman hurled four scoreless innings and the Green offense produced 11 runs on 13 hits as the Green team captured the 2009 USF Fall World Series Sunday afternoon at Red McEwen Field with a 11-4 victory.
After a scoreless first, the Green jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the second courtesy of a passed ball scoring Alex Mendez and an RBI single which scored Sam Mende.
In the fourth inning the Green team would add to their lead by plating four run and tacked on a seventh run in the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth Gold responded by scoring three. Freshman Nick Conforti started off the inning with a double off of Stephen Hunt and then stole third. After Ryan Lockwood walked, Jonathan Kosco Singled to score Conforti and put runners on first and second with nobody out. Facing a 1-2 count, Todd Brazael doubled off the warning track in left-center, scoring both Lockwood and Kosco.
Both teams pushed one run across in the sixth but the Green scored two in the seventh to make extend the lead to 11-4.
Despite the 11-4 score, the Green only out hit the Gold by a 12-11 margin but the Gold extended a few Green innings by making four errors.
