TAMPA - The University of South Florida volleyball team has signed outside Kimika Rozier to the team for the 2010 season. Rozier, a 5-10 transfer from the Washington State University, will have two years of eligibility with USF.
"Kimika is just what we were looking for," head coach Claire Lessinger said. "She is an athletic, versatile, and mature player. She has incredible leadership qualities which will positively impact our young squad. We are very fortunate to inherit a player from the Pac-10 with NCAA tournament experience. I can't wait to get her in a Bulls uniform; she is going to be an exciting addition to the floor."
Rozier was president of Cougar Student-Athlete Advisory Council in 2008-09. She also represented Washington State University as one of 233 Division I student-athletes at the 2009 NCAA Student-Athlete Development Conference at the Walt Disney World Coronado Spring Resort in Orlando, Fla.
In high school, Rozier earned six letters at Vista Murrieta High, three in volleyball for coach Kristen Robarts and three in track and field for coach Coley Candale. She finished third in league in track 100m hurdles, where she also triple jumped and long jumped. Her Bronco volleyball squad won the 2005 Southwestern League title with a 10-0 record and the 2006 league crown with a 9-1 record, finishing the year 23-4 overall She was named to all-league first team twice and once to second team. Also was a three-time academic all-league selection.
She played for the Temecula Valley Volleyball Club with wins at the 2006 Reno Volleyball Festival in the U-16s and also took bronze at the Junior Olympics.
Rozier will be joined by local product Kayla Walton, who signed a NCAA Letter of Intent at the end of the 2009 season.
