USF Game Notes

South Carolina Game Notes

CHARLESTON, S.C. - Sophomore Augustus Gilchrist, in his first full season as a collegiate starter, continues to shine on the court for the Bulls. In USF's most recent action Thursday night against Davidson, Gilchrist sank 15-of-16 free throws and had 21 points all-together in leading USF to a 65-58 win in the first round of the Charleston Classic.

Gilchrist set a personal best with his 15 free throws, and also tied the second-best mark in school history with Solomon Bozeman, who also sank 15 against Stetson on Nov. 27, 2006, two off the school record of 17 set by John Kiser back in 1972. More impressively, his free throw percentage for the game (.938) was way above his career average coming into the game (.609) and allowed the Bulls to ice the game late when Davidson shrank the lead down to single digits.

Gilchrist and junior Dominique Jones caught fire in the second half when USF needed them the most, as the two combined for 39 of USF's 47 second-half points. Gilchrist had only two points in the first half, but added 19 more in the second half, including his 15 free throws. Gilchrist has scored at least 18 points in each of the first three games.
