LAWRENCE, Kan. -- The University of South Florida men and women's track and field teams traveled to compete in the Jayhawk Classic on Friday and finished the day's events with eight first-place finishes.

The biggest highlight of the day for USF came when graduate studnet Denise von Enyatten broke the school record in pole vault, clearing 14 feet. She had set the previous record in 2008, jumping 13-11.25. Stephanie Duffy, who tied her personal best at the meet (13-5.25), and Dana Webb (12-5.50) took second and third place, respectively.

In addition to von Enyatten, mid-distance runner Shaniel Chambers also broke a school record, winning the 600 meter race in 1:33.48. Ashley Grigsby had set the previous school record with a 1:37.87 in 2007.

"Overall, we had a very solid meet," said fifth-year head coach Warren Bye. "We had [Denise] break the school record and several event winners. Denise has been jumping well and had a break-through tonight. She is capable of jumping higher, too. All the kids stepped up and competed well, though. This meet gave them another opportunity to prepare for the BIG EAST Championships coming up in three weeks."

For the second week in a row, freshman Shane Lewis and senior Antillio Bastian took the one and two spots in the triple jump, leaping 48-7.25 and 48-2.75, respectively.

The other event winners were Dariel Jackson in the 200 meters, Yasmin Smith (Mile), Marqueshia Stallworth (triple jump), Lauren Noe (weight throw) and Mike Vani (pole vault).

The teams will be back in action next weekend when they travel to State College, Pa. for the Sykes-Sabock Challenge Cup. Events are slated to start at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 5.
