The Bulls proved to be a great headlining act at the USF/Waterlefe Invitational on Tuesday.
The USF women's golf team jumped all over the field and won the event by 17 strokes, while Christina Miller and Amy West finished at the top of the individual leader board.
"It was exciting to watch, especially coming in on the home stretch. These girls put a lot into their play these last two rounds," head coach Marci Kornegay said. "I am very happy for them to pull out a win and two come away with a No. 1 and 2 in individual play."
Miller headed into Tuesday's final round tied for the lead and made the title her own by firing a 74 on the par-72 course. The sophomore transfer from Ole Miss now has two individual titles in two full events as a Bull.
Miller was able rise above the rest of the field thanks to her ability to post a tournament-best 11 birdies with a swing she continues to work tirelessly on.
"My confidence is getting better every day," the Bradenton native said. "At this point last year, I was probably 2 percent confident and now I'm about 95 percent confident."
West topped her second round score by two shots (73) in the third round to finish alone in second place.
"I had a lot of confidence coming into this course because I've played it two years in a row and I scored well the last two times I played here," she said. "It's good to have a team win under our belt."
Two other Bulls joined in the top-10 fun when Shena Yang finished in sixth place at 13 over and Kelli Pry headed to the clubhouse in a four-way tie for seventh at 14 over.
"It's good to have a team win under our belt," West said.
Brie Heinzler led the USF2 team by finishing in 21st place at 21 over, as she continues the process of undergoing a minor swing change.
USF is off from tournament play next week and gets back into action at the Lady Paladin Invitational Oct. 28-30 in Greenville, S.C.
