Bulls Gain Valuable Experience in Regional

By TOM ZEBOLD

USF Senior Writer

The USF women's golf team's memorable season ended with a beneficial learning experience.

The Bulls finished the NCAA Central Regional in 19th place two and a half weeks after they captured the program's first-ever Big East Championship trophy. The team will return every player next season aside from senior Kelli Pry and head coach Marci Kornegay said this week's experience has helped set a new standard for USF golf.

"It was a good week to learn," she said. "There were a lot of valuable lessons about what it takes to compete on a national level."

Pry shot 28 over in regional play after making the All-Big East team with a sixth-place finish in the conference tournament. The Coatesville, Pa., native started competing with the team two seasons ago and her leadership was a key reason why the Bulls made it this far this year.

"I'm proud of the commitment from Pry for her last three years," Kornegay said. "She is a terrific ambassador to this program and will be missed."

Big East Player of the Year Christina Miller, only a sophomore, was the top Bull in regional play, finishing in a tie for 48 that 17 over after posting USF's lowest score of the tournament (74) in the final round.

Joining Miller on next year's squad will be Shena Young, a multiple All-Big East selection, who will be a senior. Amy West and Anna Hancock, also in this year's regional lineup, will be back as well to give the Bulls a ton of postseason experience moving forward.

"I'm excited about the future of this program and what we can accomplish," Kornegay said.
