TAMPA - Jared Thomas represented USF well and now he's trying to do the same for the United States.
The Bulls' former throws specialist will be competing in the preliminary round of the discus throw at the U.S. Olympic Trials on Monday afternoon in Eugene, Ore. Coverage of the preliminary round, along with Thursday's final, will be aired from 9-11 p.m. on NBC Sports Network.
Thomas, a recent graduate, accomplished quite a bit in his senior season as a Bull. The Pensacola native earned All-American status by finishing fifth in the discus at the NCAA Division I Outdoor Championship. He also set a new school record in the discus during the regular season with a throw of 201 feet.
Whether Thomas qualifies for Team USA or not, he will be wearing red, white and blue this summer. Thomas has already been selected to the USA U-23 squad that will be competing at the NACAC U-23 Championships July 6-9 in Guanajuato, Mexico.
