TAMPA - Conditions were ideal for a solid round of golf and Anna Hancock took advantage of the situation Monday in Norman, Okla.

Hancock posted an even-par 72 to get within four shots of the lead after the first round of the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic. The Bulls are tied for 13^th place with Kennesaw State after at the Jimmie Austin OU Golf Club.

"I was hoping we could have taken advantage of an unusually calm day for Oklahoma, but we didn't. We'll have to play smart tomorrow as the winds are forecasted to pick up," head coach Marci Kornegay said.

Hancock made her coach proud by posting five birdies to get within striking distance of leader Tonje Daffinrud of Denver.

"I'm proud of the way Anna fought through her round," Kornegay said. "Her ball striking and decision making were very solid. She had a few goofs out there, but overall she is ready to have a consistent tournament."

Christina Miller was the next-best Bull with a 3-over 75 and Shena Yang started off with a 5-over 77.
