Jumpers Shine on Day Two of Texas Relays

AUSTIN - Field events dominated the Bulls' successes on their second day of competition at the annual Texas Relays as USF posted five top-five finishes led by Monique Williams who won the B section of the triple jump and finished second in the B section of the long jump.

"Our field events group had a great day, especially when you consider it is this early in the season against a very high level of competition," said head coach Warren Bye. "Monique's performance today was outstanding, between three events, she held her own and continued to improve. I'm pleased with where we finished today and am looking forward to seeing what we can do tomorrow in the high jump and 4x200m relay."

Williams started the day running a leg of the Bulls' 4x100m relay that finished 12th with a time of 46.08 in the prelims then immediately went to the long jump pit where she set a PR on each of her first three jumps, eventually landing at 20-1.75 (2.5w) to finish second overall.

She then went on to the triple jump where she won the event on her last jump posting a wind-legal leap of 42-5.25 (12.93m) which is a new personal best and gives her a top 15 mark in the NCAA this outdoor season. Her mark also moves her into second all-time at USF.

Williams was joined in the triple jump by Marqueshia Stallworth who finished second with a wind-aided leap of 42-1.50 (2.1w), which ranks in the top 20 in the NCAA this year.

Williams' jump is the second-best in USF history and also ties for eighth in the NCAA this outdoor season.

Neaman WIse opened his 2013 campaign with a long jump leap of 25-0 for fifth place in the 'A' section of the Texas Relays meet. Wise owns the school record in the event and his mark places him in the top 15 in the NCAA this season.

Matthew Oneal also recorded a top five finish in the 'B' section of the triple jump as he posted a leap of 50-2.75 (15.31m) for fifth overall. His mark was just shy of his career best which is 50-3.50.

The Bulls continue action at the Texas Relays on Saturday led by the national leader in the high jump Courtney Anderson who will jump in the 'A' section of the event at 3 p.m. while the Bulls will also field a women's 4x200m relay at 1 p.m.
