TAMPA – USF's Sara Nevins and Kourtney Salvarola have been named to the 2013 NFCA Division I All-Mideast Region First Team while Stephanie Medina became a second-team selection this week.
The all-region squads were chosen by NFCA member coaches from each region and each honoree is now eligible for selection to one of the NFCA's three All-American teams that will be announced Wednesday May 29 at 5 p.m. on NFCA.org.
Nevins (25-7) currently ranks third in the nation with a 0.94 ERA in 201 innings this season. The junior left-hander was named Big East Pitcher of the Year before totaling 22 2/3 scoreless innings to help the Bulls win their first Big East tournament.
Salvarola was a unanimous selection on the All-Big East First Team and the junior shortstop leads USF in several offensive categories including batting average (.346), hits (55), runs (38), homers (13) and RBIs (42).
Medina, a junior first baseman, ranks second on the team with 49 hits and third with a .293 batting average while playing in all 57 of the Bulls' games so far this season.
No. 22/25 USF (43-14) starts its NCAA Gainesville Regional run 3:30 p.m. Friday against Georgia Southern. The Bulls won the Gainesville Regional last season on the way to booking the program's first trip to the Women's College World Series.
