TAMPA, AUG. 28, 2014 – All of USF men's basketball's 18 American Athletic Conference games will be shown on a television network or on ESPN3 this season as the conference schedule was released on Thursday.
USF's conference schedule will begin on Dec. 31 at SMU with a New Year's Eve game at a yet-to-be-determined time on ESPN2. On Jan. 3, the Bulls will welcome new conference member East Carolina to the Sun Dome for the first time since 2007 in a 7 p.m. game on ESPN3 before hosting defending national champion UConn on Jan. 6 at 7 p.m. on ESPN2.
USF will then play six of its next nine games on the road, beginning with a Jan. 11 road trip to New Orleans, La., to face new conference member Tulane at a time to-be-determined on ESPN3. Tulsa, last season's Conference USA champion, comes to Tampa on Jan. 17 for an 11 a.m. start on ESPNU. The Bulls play at Temple on Jan. 22 at 6:30 p.m. on ESPNews, a game USF won 82-75 last season, and return to the northeast three days later to UConn for a noon tip on CBSSN.
An NIT participant last season, SMU, visits USF on Jan. 28 for a 7 p.m. game on ESPNU. The Bulls play at Tulsa on Jan. 31 at 1 p.m. and then host Temple on Feb. 4 at 6:30 p.m. Both games will be on ESPNews. USF plays at 2014 NCAA tournament participant Cincinnati on Feb. 7 at 8 p.m. on CBSSN and then at in-state rival UCF on Feb. 11 at 7 p.m. on ESPNews.
The Bearcats are one of two conference teams that USF will play just one time this season. The other is 2014 NCAA tournament participant Memphis, which visits the Sun Dome on Feb. 14 at noon on ESPNU. USF hosts Houston on Feb. 17 at 7 p.m. on ESPNews before playing at Houston on March 1 on ESPN3.
UCF will make the trip down I-4 for a 7 p.m. tip-time on March 4 which will be shown on ESPNU. The final home game of the season will be against Tulane on March 7 on ESPNews. A time for the Sun Dome finale will be announced at a later date.
It was also announced this week that the Bulls' Nov. 23 game at NC State will be at 4 p.m. on ESPNU. In addition, all of USF's nonconference home games now have a start time. The Bulls open with an exhibition against IU-Pennsylvania on Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. The remaining times are as follows: Nov. 14 vs. Flagler College at 7 p.m., Nov. 16 vs. Jackson State at 2 p.m., Nov. 25 vs. Hofstra at 7 p.m., Nov. 29 vs. Jacksonville at 2 p.m., Dec. 15 vs. Georgia Southern at 7 p.m. (ESPN3), Dec. 18 vs. Seton Hall at 7 p.m., Dec. 23 vs. Southeastern Louisiana at 1 p.m. (ESPN3) and Dec. 28 vs. Bowling Green at 2 p.m. (ESPN3).
Altogether, USF is slated for six games on ESPNews, ESPNU and ESPN3 and two on ESPN2 and CBSSN for a total of 22. Those television numbers could increase as Conference USA (UAB), Horzon League (Detroit) and the SEC (Alabama) have yet to announce its nonconference television schedule. USF's game against Florida State as part of the MetroPCS Orange Bowl Basketball Classic in Sunrise, Fla., could also be picked as a TV game.
The American Athletic Conference Championships will be held March 12-15 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. All 11 conference teams will qualify for the tournament and all 10 games will be televised on either ESPN, ESPN2, ESPNU or ESPNews.
