ORLANDO, FEB. 7, 2017 – Senior Nicole Autrique ended the UCF Challenge on a high note for USF women’s golf.
Autrique posted consecutive rounds of par or better, finishing with a 1-under 71 Tuesday afternoon at Eagle Creek Golf Club (par 72, 6,349 yards). Autrique (+3) tied for 38th among 96 players after tying for 17th place in the Bulls’ spring opener at the Florida Challenge on Jan. 30.
USF placed 16th and got its top overall score from Maria Rodriguez (+2). The junior from Cali, Colombia tied for 33rd place and led the Bulls with 10 birdies at the three-day event. Rodriguez opened with a 2-under 70 and followed with a 73 and 75.
Senior Ashley Burke (Boynton Beach, Fla.) followed up her even-par 72 in the second round with a 76 and tied for 50th at 5-over, just five shots outside of the top 25.
Clemson and No. 14 Miami tied for the team lead at 14-under, and Clemson took home the tournament title after having a lower fifth score in a tiebreaker. No. 17 Texas (-10), No. 20 UCF (-10) and Mississippi State (-10) rounded out the top five. Mississippi State’s Chieh Jessica Peng (-10) posted a one-shot victory on the individual leaderboard.
- Senior Ashley Burke finished with a team-leading 39 birdies, four off the tournament lead.
- USF’s even-par 288 in the second round marked the Bulls’ best round of the season so far.
