Bulls Impress Prats at Florida State Match-Up

TALLAHASSEE, FEB. 12, 2017Nicole Autrique carded the best round of her senior campaign to help USF post its best 54-hole score of the season at the Florida State Match-Up on Sunday.

Autrique (Mexico City) collected six birdies during her 5-under 67 in the final round to tie for 10th place at 1-under. Autrique matched her career-best round and the impressive performance boosted USF to a seventh-place finish out of 12 programs.

Head coach Tiffany Prats’ Bulls have registered two top-10 finishes in the past three events after leaving Tallahassee with an 884, a four-shot improvement from the UCF Challenge earlier this week. USF has three top-10 finishes in six events this season.

Maria Rodriguez posted her second top-25 finish of the season, tying for 22nd place at 3-over. The junior from Cali, Colombia finished the tournament with nine total birdies, two off Autrique’s team lead.

Sophomore Maria Merchan (Venezuela) birdied four holes during her 1-under run on the back nine Sunday and tied for 43rd place at 11-over. Senior Ashley Burke (Boynton Beach, Fla.) finished a shot behind Merchan after carding a season-low 70 in the second round at Don Veller Seminole Country Club (par 72, 6,260 yards).

Freshman Amanda Leslie (T56, +18) shot a season-best 76 in the final round of USF’s third tournament in a two-week span.

- USF (884) posted its best 36-hole team score of the season so far. It marked a four-shot improvement from USF’s final score at the UCF Challenge on Tuesday.

- Junior Maria Rodriguez led the Bulls with 34 total pars. Sophomore Maria Merchan and senior Nicole Autrique tied for second on the team with 33 pars apiece.
