TAMPA (March 3, 2017) – The USF softball team dropped its final game of the Under Armour Invitational to Villanova, 5-0, Sunday afternoon.
After four scoreless innings, the Wildcats would take a lead they would never relinquish.
Villanova jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the fifth inning, utilizing a defensive miscue and a two-RBI triple to take the lead. A walk and single put two on, before a throwing error allowed the first run to score. USF was able to get back-to-back outs, before a triple would clear the bases.
The Wildcats would tack on another pair of runs in the top of the seventh. Four straight singles would plate a pair of runs for Villanova, before Hannah Parker entered the game to get the final two outs and leave the bases loaded.
The Bulls had just two hits in the game, coming off the bats of AnaMarie Bruni and Samantha Worrell. Bruni has now reached base in her last three games.
2-Villanova pitcher Brette Lawrence threw a complete-game shutout, allowing just two USF hits.
