Bulls Defeat Nittany Lions, 4-3

 TAMPA (March 9, 2017) – The USF women’s tennis team defeated Penn State, 4-3, Thursday afternoon after sophomore Ana Roman Dominguez clinched the match for the Bulls in a 7-6(6), 6-1 win over No. 104 Katia Blik.

With a 1-0 advantage after doubles play, the Bulls kicked off singles play and Nicole Dzenga made quick work of Jacqueline Zuhse with a pair of 6-1 wins. The Nittany Lions answered on court five where Shannon Hanley handed freshman Brooke Lashway a straight-set 6-1, 6-2 loss. Senior Olga Martinez extended the Bulls’ lead in the No. 4 spot with a 6-2, 6-2 victory before Roman Dominguez clinched for the Bulls.

After the match was decided, Juliana Cardoso and Vanja Klaric played out their matches with Cardoso falling, 6-3, 1-6, 7-5, and Klaric falling 6-4, 3-6, 7-5.

In a battle for the doubles point, Vera Bessonova and Dzenga came back from a 4-0 deficit to clinch in a 7-5 tiebreak on court two. Roman Dominguez and Lashway finished first with a 6-3 win on court three to start doubles, and Martinez and Cardoso went to a tiebreak on court one, falling 7-6(6).

The USF women’s tennis team will play alongside the men’s team for an 11 a.m. match against Penn Saturday on courts 7-12.
