Bulls Drop Saturday Matinee to Penn, 5-2

TAMPA (March 11, 2017) –  After dropping the doubles point, the USF women’s tennis team fought back to a 2-1 lead but couldn’t hold on as the Penn Quakers overcame them, 5-2.

USF needed four singles wins to take the match, and Juliana Cardoso and Vanja Klaric won in straight sets on courts two and six to take a 2-1 lead. In the No. 2 spot, Cardoso defeated Ria Vaidya 6-1, 6-2, and Kalric went 6-3, 6-1 over OJ Singh at No. 6.

The Bulls couldn’t hold as Penn took courts one, four, and five to clinch the match. Vera Bessonova went to a super tie break in lieu of a third set, but fell 6-5, 5-7, 1-0(8).

Cardoso and Martinez struck first in doubles with a 6-3 win, but the Quakers clinched the point with a pair of 6-2 wins on courts two and three.

Up Next:

The Bulls are back in action Tuesday for a noon game against Liberty, followed by a conference match against Tulsa Thursday at noon.
