Bulls Blank Pirates, 3-0, in Series Opener

TAMPA (April 7, 2017) – The USF softball team finished off ECU, 3-0, to open the series Friday afternoon. The Bulls improved to 22-19, 2-4 on the year while ECU fell to 19-21, 2-5.

Astin Donovan tripled, and then scored on a sacrifice fly by Kassie Moeller to put the Bulls up early in the first. After three scoreless innings, the Bulls plated a pair in the fifth to extend their lead.

A two-out rally in the fifth started as Kristen Wyckoff launched a triple into right field, and a wild pitch sent her home. Moeller took first after a walk, and came home on a RBI double from Sam Worrell.

Kalen McGill held off the Pirates for just over five innings, allowing just two hits and two walks before Hannah Parker would enter the circle, striking out three in a four-out save.

- USF turned two double plays, both with the help of Lauren Evans.

- Astin Donovan has scored or driven in nine of the Bulls’ last 12 runs.

- With a steal, Donovan is now 9-for-9 on the season and has combined with Kristen Wyckoff to steal 24 bases in 24 attempts.

The Bulls will embark on a four-day road trip to face Jacksonville and UCF. USF and JU will play a midweek game on April 12, before the Bulls and Knights face off for a three-game series in conference play.
