The momentum from Bertran’s early victory carried to court five where senior Vadym Kalyuzhnyy clawed back from a 4-2 deficit to defeat Markus Kerner. Kalyuzhnyy earned a first-set tiebreak win, 7-6(5), before finishing his match 6-1 in the second set.

SMU would then answer with a second-set, tiebreak win on court three over junior Justin Roberts, 6-3, 7-6(5) to tie the match at two.

Senior Sasha Gozun gave USF back the lead going 3-6, 6-1, 6-4 in the No. 1 spot before Barroso-Campos clinched the match.

The Bulls took it to the last court in doubles after Gozun and Barroso-Campos took court ne 7-5, and Kalyzuhnyy and Wojcik fell, 6-3, on court three. The Mustangs clinched the doubles point with a 7-6(6) tiebreak win on court two over Bertran and Roberts.

Quotable:

Coach Fisher on the win…

“I'm really proud of the way the guys kept fighting today, and when things were not going well they stepped up and got better. The conditions were very challenging with swirling winds, and to come out with a win after losing the doubles point on the road against a quality team shows what this group of guys can do.”
