USF won the men's and women's hammer throw events
TAMPA, APRIL 21, 2017 – The USF track and field team began the South Florida Collegiate with two event wins on Friday night.
The meet began with senior Bernicia Holifield (Tallahassee, Fla.) and junior Ashley Wilson (Tampa) going 1-2 in the women's hammer throw. Holifield's distance of 180-9 earned the senior her fifth event win at USF and it came in her final collegiate home meet. Wilson, who won the Individual Community Award at the Stampede of Champions event on Monday, recorded a personal-best distance of 180-6, the sixth-highest mark in program history.
Sophomore Bruce Robinson (Little Falls, N.Y.) then posted the Bulls' next win with a distance of 188-2 in the men's hammer throw, second-best in USF history.

Notable
- In the women's javelin, senior Mira Carrozza (Pittsburgh) placed second (138-3).
- Junior Zach Diaczynsky (Naples, Fla.) finished third in the men's hammer throw (173-0).

Led by 11th-year head coach Warren Bye, the USF track and field team has produced 21 All-Americans (eight men, 13 women) since 2000 and at least one All-American in nine of the last 10 years. Recent graduate Matthew O'Neal is USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. The Bulls return all-conference performer David Akins (pole vault) and Michael Babinec (steeplechase), as well as NCAA qualifier Bernicia Holifield (hammer throw). The Bulls are home to the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary.
