GAINESVILLE, Fla., APRIL 28, 2017 – The USF track and field team totaled five, top-three finishes at the Tom Jones Invitational on Friday.
The meet began with the men's hammer throw as sophomore Bruce Robinson (Little Falls, N.Y.) placed third with a distance of 184-9. Later in the day, Robinson also finished third in the shot put (51-2.25).
In the afternoon, senior Mira Carrozza (Pittsburgh) won the women's javelin event (146-8).
Key Stat
- Freshman Yohance Haynes (Ft. Lauderdale, Fla.) posted the fifth-best 800m time in program history (1:51.22).
Notable
- Sophomore David Bell (Jacksonville, Fla.) was the runner-up (16-7.5) in the men's pole vault. Junior David Akins (Orlando) placed third (16-1.75).
- The weather for the Tom Jones Invitational featured upper 90 degree temperatures.
Next Up
The Bulls will travel to Houston for the American Athletic Conference Championship May 12-14.

Led by 11th-year head coach Warren Bye, the USF track and field team has produced 21 All-Americans (eight men, 13 women) since 2000 and at least one All-American in nine of the last 10 years. Recent graduate Matthew O'Neal is USF's first six-time NCAA All-American. The Bulls return all-conference performer David Akins (pole vault) and Michael Babinec (steeplechase), as well as NCAA qualifier Bernicia Holifield (hammer throw). The Bulls are home to the 2018 NCAA Track and Field East Preliminary.
