Greg Byrd joins the University of South Florida Sports Medicine staff as Assistant Athletic Trainer, in charge of coverage for Men's and Women's Track & Field/XC.

Byrd returns to USF as alumni, earning his Bachelor's degree from the USF Sports Medicine Program, recognized as Athletic Training Student of the Year in 2008 and a member of the 1st Athletic Training class to graduate from the USF College of Medicine.

Since 2008, his career progression includes work as Graduate Assistant for Track & Field/XC at Florida State University, being a part of 8 ACC Championships and several Cross Country, Indoor and Outdoor top 4 National Championship finishes in two years of coverage. During his time at FSU, Byrd helped provide medical coverage for numerous Olympic and/or World Championship Qualifying athletes, including traveling to USA Championships to provide coverage for FSU competitors. Byrd also helped provide coverage for pre-season practices and home games for Football.

Previous to hire at USF, Byrd spent this past year as Interim Head Athletic Trainer at Florida Institute of Technology, beginning his time there as Assistant Athletic Trainer and providing coverage for 19 NCAA Division II sports, including an NCAA final four qualifying women's soccer team and NCAA second round qualifying Women's Basketball team. In this position, Byrd was responsible for all Sports Medicine Department operations, coordination with Athletic Department Administration and Physicians, as well as day to day care of more than 350 student athletes.

Byrd is a BOC Nationally Certified Athletic Trainer, licensed in the State of Florida as well as being CPR/AED, Professional Rescuer, and IV Therapy Certified. He is a member of the National Athletic Trainers' Association and National Strength and Conditioning Association.

Byrd is a native of Jackson, Miss. and earned his Master's Degree in Sport Administration from Florida State University.
