USF Signs One of Spain's Best Junior Players

By TOM ZEBOLD

USF Senior Writer

TAMPA - USF men's tennis coach Matt Hill has gotten one of Spain's best junior players to become a Bull.

Freshman Ignacio Gonzalez Muniz has signed with USF and will be able to play right away this spring after being ranked as highly as No. 129 in the world at the junior level. Gonzalez Muniz, nicknamed "Nacho," has defeated multiple ranked players on the ATP circuit and was invited to train with the Spanish Tennis Federation in Barcelona.

Gonzalez Muniz chose USF over big-name programs like Alabama, Florida State and North Carolina.

"Naturally we are incredibly excited about Nacho starting with us this coming spring," Hill said. "He is an exciting player to coach and develop, and he's going to bring a lot of experience and talent to our very young team."

Hill and assistant coach Brandon Wagner have put an emphasis on recruited well-rounded talent from around the world, and Gonzalez Muniz is a great example of the type of student-athlete they want in green and gold.

"Besides being a great tennis player, he is an amazing guy to be around, which is always a qualification we require when we are recruiting players around the world," Hill said. "It takes more than being a great tennis player to play here at USF and we couldn't be happier with this addition to our program."

Gonzalez Muniz will be in action for the Bulls this weekend when they start the spring at the FGCU Spring Invitational in Fort Myers.
