Bulls Prep for Big East at Penn State

TAMPA - The USF track and field team definitely will be battled tested by the time the Big East Indoor Championships take place in two weeks.

The Bulls have taken on top competition at Alabama, Notre Dame, Kansas and step onto the track one last time before the league meet at Saturday's Sykes & Sabock Challenge Cup at Penn State's Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.

"This will be a challenge for us as far as competition. At the same time, we want to see the kids improve on their marks from past weeks," USF head coach Warren Bye said.

Progress has been steady this spring for a USF team that already has qualified 31 women and 24 men for the Big East meet. The Bulls posted 29 top-10 finishes at Alabama, won five events at Notre Dame and added three more event winners at last weekend's Jayhawk Classic.

"The athletes know the expectations here and the coaches have done a great job of setting them up for success," Bye said. "We want to step up, be the best in the Big East and compete at the national level. Our kids are getting closer to doing that every weekend."

The Bulls will take next week off before traveling to Geneva, Ohio for the Big East Indoor Championships on Feb. 16-17.
