TAMPA - The Bulls are in the mix after Sunday's first round of the UCF Challenge.

The USF women's golf team is just one shot away from the top 10 and 13 strokes behind leader South Carolina with 36 holes to play in the next two days at RedTail Golf Club in Sorrento, Fla.

Senior Amy West started with a 1-over 72, followed by Shena Yang (2 over), and Diana Rabago and Anna Hancock at 3 over. Christina Miller (4 over) made her spring debut in USF's second event of the season.  

"I thought it was pretty unique that we were able to stay competitive in this talented field not even counting Christina's score," USF head coach Marci Kornegay said. "To be in contention after day one at this event is a pretty good place to be in. We have work to do in the next two days."

Rabago really stood out to Kornegay after having two great weeks of qualifying. The junior from Tampico, Mexico posted two birdies and made 11 pars after making USF's lineup.

"I'm mostly excited about the work Diana did today. She played really steady and came in with a lot of confidence," Kornegay said.
