TAMPA - The Bulls shoot for their third victory over a ranked team this season when No. 3 UConn visits the Sun Dome on Senior Day.
USF (19-8, 8-6) has won three of its past four games and seeks its first-ever win over the Huskies when the programs meet up Saturday at noon.
"We knew at the start of the season that we'd have a chance to get a big win here at the Sun Dome on Senior Day, and the team has been playing extremely well of late, so I am very excited to see what we can do against the Huskies," head coach Jose Fernandez said.
USF's seniors being honored before the game are guard Andrea Smith, guard Andrell Smith, center Caitlin Rowe, guard Sasha Bernard, forward Tahira Johnson, forward Tiffany Conner, guard Kaneisha Saunders and senior Aleshia Flowers.
UConn (26-2, 13-2) has won 14 of its past 15 games while Geno Auriemma recently became only the second women's Division I head coach to win 400 games in a single conference. Auriemma picked up Big East victory No. 401 when the Huskies defeated Pittsburgh, 76-36, on Tuesday.
The Bulls are looking to bounce back from a 68-56 loss at Rutgers on Tuesday. Freshman guard Courtney Williams stepped up with 15 points and Andrea Smith added 11 points in USF's first loss since St. John's on Feb. 12. Smith (16.8 ppg) continues to lead the Bulls in scoring and the Lakeland, Fla., native ranks fourth in the Big East.
The Bulls wrap up their regular season 8 p.m. Monday at Georgetown. The Big East Championship will be held March 8-12 at the XL Center in Hartford, Conn. The Bulls have already clinched a bye to the second round.
