DES MOINES, Iowa – Fresh off of his ninth-place finish at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, University of South Florida freshman Matthew O’Neal posted a leap of 50-11.5 (15.53m) to place fourth in the triple jump at the U.S. A. Junior National Championships Thursday.
O’Neal, who was competing for a spot on Team USA at the 2013 Pan Am Junior Championships, posted the leap on his first of six attempts. His finish concludes a very successful freshman campaign as he earned second-team outdoor All-America honors, won two BIG EAST titles (indoor and outdoor triple jump) and set the USF outdoor school record by over a foot with his jump of 52-10.
The Bulls have one more competitor this week in Des Moines as Courtney Anderson will participate in the high jump on Saturday. Anderson, who owns the USF school record in the event, most recently finished second in the high jump at the 2013 NCAA Outdoor Championships.
