TAMPA, Fla. – TAMPA, Fla. – The University of South Florida baseball team lost, 6-1, to the Oklahoma Sooners Tuesday night at Red McEwen Field.

The Bulls fall to 10-7 on the season and the Sooners of Oklahoma, who are receiving votes in national polls, improve to 16-5.

USF’s starting pitcher, freshman Derrick Stultz, threw six full innings, striking out four and allowing two runs from five hits.

"The most positive thing about today's game is Derrick Stultz," said head coach Lelo Prado. "He has come out and done a great job as a freshman and he's getting better and better. He found himself in a couple of tough situations early today, but worked himself out of them."

The Bulls offense started slow, scoring their only run in the bottom of the sixth inning. With two outs, junior Brandon Smith was walked, then senior Joey Angelberger and junior Trey Manz both blasted singles up the middle. Manz collected his ninth RBI of the season on his hit.

The Bulls' offense had a total of seven hits in the game, two from Manz and one apiece from freshman Jonathan Koscso, juniors Chris Rey, Brandon Smith and Mike Consolmagno and Angelberger.

The Bulls go on to face the Sooners again on Wednesday night at Red McEwen Field. The Bulls will start freshman left-hander Junior Carlin and the Sooners will throw junior left-hander C.J. Blue.
