Bulls Finish Day One At Seminole Invitational

Tampa- The University of South Florida women's tennis team competed in its first day of the Seminole Invitational on Friday.

Junior Irene Rehberger picked up a singles win for the Bulls on Friday in her singles match against Ute Schnoy of Denver. This was a hard fought match between the two players and it was Rehberger who came out victorious in the end with her 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 6-3 win over Schnoy.

Freshman Ecaterina Vasenina picked up another singles win for the Bulls on Friday in her singles match against Ashley Murdock of Memphis. Vasenina topped Murdock 6-2, 6-2.

Senior Natalia Guevara kept the momentum going for the Bulls on Friday in her singles match against Andrea Arques-Garcia of Memphis. Guevara topped Arques-Garcia in two sets 6-1, 6-0.

Senior Melissa Koning picked up the Bulls forth singles win of the day in her match against Lauren Kline of Furman. Koning won the first set 6-4 and then fell in the second set 3-6. Koning then came back and won the third set 6-1.

Senior Jessica Zok also competed in singles action for the Bulls on Friday against Jennifer Betts of Furman. Zok fell to Betts 6-2, 6-1.

Guevara and Zok competed in the black doubles bracket on Friday against Susan Bitetti of Furman and Sophia Bergner of Denver. This was a battle to the very end but Guevara and Zok came out on top in the end with their 9-8 (7-3) win over Bergner and Bitetti.

Rehberger and Koning competed in the Garnet doubles bracket on Friday against Oleysa Tsigventseva and Natalia Mayuk of Mississippi State. Rehberger and Koning topped Tsigventseva and Mayuk 8-1. With the win Rehberger and Koning moved on to the next round in the Garnet doubles bracket where they faced Ashley Murdock and Courtney Collins of Memphis. Rehberger and Koning beat Murdock and Collins 8-4 which moved them on to the final round of the garnet doubles bracket.

Vasenina and Mueller competed in the gold doubles bracket on Friday against Jessica Preeg and Olivia Maurice of Furman. Vasenina and Mueller rolled past Preeg and Maurice 8-5. With the win Vasenina and Mueller moved on to the next round in the gold doubles bracket where they faced Federica Suess and Jessica Sucupira of Florida State. Vasenina and Mueller beat Suess and Sucupira 8-4 which advanced them to the final round of the gold doubles bracket.

Day two at the Seminole Invitational is set to start at 9:00 a.m.
