TAMPA- The 2010 Embassy Suites Lead-Off Banquet will feature a number of celebrity guests, including Olympian Jennie Finch and New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi. Just a few tickets still remain for purchase.
The annual banquet, featuring the USF Softball and Baseball teams, will take place on Thursday, February 18 starting at 7 p.m. at the Embassy Suites USF/near Busch Gardens located at 3705 Spectrum Blvd.
The banquet will feature a number of celebrity guests, including Olympian Jennie Finch and New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi.
Finch is arguably the most recognizable player in all of softball and the most famous softball player of all time. Finch is a member of the USA National Softball Team. The team won the gold medal at the 2004 Summer Olympics and a silver medal at the 2008 Summer Olympics. Although she is listed on the roster as a pitcher, Finch sometimes plays first base. Finch, who played collegiately at the University of Arizona, where she was a three-time All-American pitcher and first-baseman and "Honda Award" winner for the Player of the Year as a member of the Wildcat softball team.
This past fall, Girardi led the New York Yankees to the American League pennant as well as their 27th World Series title. Girardi was a former Major League catcher for the Chicago Cubs, the Colorado Rockies, the New York Yankees, and St. Louis Cardinals. He was also manager of the Florida Marlins in 2006, where he was named National League Manager of the Year.
The banquet will consist of a sit-down dinner, a meet and greet with both teams and a question-and-answer session with the attending celebrities.
Individual tickets start at $50, while tables for groups of ten can be purchased for $500 per table. Also available is a table sponsor which includes a table for 10 in prime location to the stage and 10 VIP tickets. The VIP tickets grant access to a reception starting at 6 p.m. which will feature both celebrity guests attending this year's banquet.
