Bulls Announce Men's Soccer Signees

TAMPA - The University of South Florida men's soccer team has announced its signing class that will begin its collegiate play in the fall of 2011. USF head coach George Kiefer released today that eight players have signed National Letters of Intent to attend USF and is one of the most decorated classes in recent memory. The class includes three junior college All-American's including the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Player of the Year.

The Bulls will welcome the class and return 19 players from last year's squad that advanced to their fourth straight NCAA Tournament, and it's fifth in the past six years.

The Bulls are also planning to sign one more player in the coming weeks.

Was a four year starter with the United States Soccer Federation Development Academy (USSFDA) including two seasons at IMG in Bradenton ... Was the 2010 (USSFDA) National Goalkeeper of the Year on the Starting XI ... Has had international experience playing for Guam ... Was ranked the 47th best recruit of 2011 in America by TopDrawerSoccer.com ... Was a National Honor Society selection at San Ramon Valley H.S.

Was a first team All-Pinellas County selection and a first team All-PCAC as a sophomore ... Was the captain of the Real Salt Lake Tampa club team and Clearwater Academy ... Was a Florida State Cup finalist in both 2007 and 2008 ... Spent the summer of 2010 in England training with Aston Villa and Blackburn Youth teams.

Was the 2010 National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) National Player of the Year ... Was also named the NJCAA Tournament Most Valuable Player and was tabbed a NJCAA  First Team All-American ... Helped guide Tyler Junior College to the 2009 and 2010 National Championship while also leading the Apache to a 42-consecutive game unbeaten streak and a 41-0-1 record during his two years ... Led the nation in goals (37) and points (79) during his final year at Tyler ... Scored 52 goals in two years at Tyler ... Played his junior college soccer at Tyler with fellow signee Brenton Griffiths and Kyle Nicholls.

Was tabbed as a first team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) selection as a sophomore ... Is a member of the Jamaican Under-17 and Under-20 National Teams ... Is also a member of the Jamaican Premier League soccer club Portmore United where he competed for both the under-17 and under-20 teams ... Played his junior college soccer at Tyler with fellow signee Dom Dwyer and Kyle Nicholls ... Also played his scholastic soccer at the same high school as fellow Bulls Ricardo Webb.

Scored seven goals and had 11 assists for 25 points which was good enough for second on the team as a sophomore ... Played his junior college soccer at Tyler with fellow signee Dom Dwyer and Brenton Griffiths.

Stiven Salinas | 5-6 | 150 | F | Miami, Fla. | Lincoln College (Ill.) | Killian H.S.
Was a second team National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) All-America after his sophomore year at Lincoln College ... Was second in the nation in assists with 22 on the year and fifth in goals scored with 23 ... Was also second in the country in points scored behind fellow USF signee Dom Dwyer (79) in points scored during the 2010 campaign with 67 ... Helped Lincoln to a 17-3-4 record and a No. 6 seed in the NJCAA National Tournament before finishing the year No. 5 in the nation in the final polls ... In his final season at Lincoln, Salinas was the Region 24 and MWAC Player of the Year ... During the 2009 campaign, Salinas was voted the Region 24 Forward of the Year and the Mid-West Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year.

Morten Benestad | 5-9 | 165 | MF | Kristiansand, Norway | University of Texas-Brownsville | Brownsville (Texas) H.S.
Played one season (2010) for Texas-Brownsville where he was named the Red River Athletic Conference Newcomer of the Year after tallying seven goals and 11 assists in 18 games ... Prior to his time in the United States, Benestad played for IK Starts' - second division team of the Norwegian Premier League - scoring nine goals and 15 assists ... Benestad won back to back Under-19 Norwegian National Championships with IK Starts.

Lucas Baldin | 5-8 | 150 | MF | Huixguilucan, Mexico | Peterson Hojas Preparatoria SC
Comes to USF after playing 2009 and 2010  for Mexican Primera Division power Toluca's Under-20 team and helping them reach the National Under-20 Tournament semifinals ... Had a stint with Atlante FC's second division team in January of 2009 ... At age 16, Baldin was invited to play for Mexican power Cruz Azul's Under-20 team and also played for the team's Under-17 academy squad ... Represented Mexico in Germany's Berlin Games.
