University of South Florida sophomore Shena Yang was selected as an individual participant for the NCAA Division I Women’s Golf East Regional on Monday.
Yang, a Tampa native, finished the 2011 regular season with a 73.3 stroke average and with seven top-10 finishes in 10 tournaments. She was the first individual assigned to the East Regional, which will be held May 5-7 at the LPGA International in Daytona Beach, Fla.
Yang finished fifth at the BIG EAST Championships on April 19 and was an individual selection to the NCAA field as a freshman last season.
A total of 378 participants were selected nationwide, with 18 of those being individuals whose teams did not qualify for the national championship field. Eight teams and two individuals will advance from each regional to the NCAA Championships, held May 18-21 at the Traditions Club in Bryan, Texas.
