BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - The University of South Florida had two more athletes advance to the NCAA Championships as the Bulls continued competition at the NCAA East Preliminary Round meet on Friday. David Aristil clocked the fastest time of the day in the east region and the sixth-fastest between the east and west regions to advance in the 400-meter hurdles, while Rozario placed 12th to claim the final qualifying spot in the 3,000-meter Steeplechase.
Aristil entered the weekend ranked second in the east region and seventh nationally, but clocked a 50.09 to place first on the day. The 50.09 was just .06 seconds off his personal best of 50.03, which he set in winning the BIG EAST Championship earlier this month. Aristil will look to better his fifth-place finish at the NCAA Championships last season when he travels to Des Moines, Iowa in two weeks.
Rozario clocked a personal-best 10:17.60 to earn her berth to the national meet. The time was .20 seconds faster than the 13th-place finisher, giving Rozario the final nod out of the east region. Rozario's effort was particularly impressive as she bettered her previous personal best of 10:23.01 by almost six seconds.
