Valerie El Houssine is a big reason the Bulls are on a roll and the Big East has noticed.
The outside hitter from Belgium was named the conference's freshman of the week on Monday after she helped USF win three straight matches and capture the UCF Invitational crown this past weekend.
"Valerie [El Houssine] was vital to our success over the weekend as well as vital to the start of this winning streak, starting with Bethune-Cookman," head coach Claire Lessinger said. "She is well deserving of the recognition and I am proud of her. Val is extremely humble which makes it very easy for everyone to respect her. She quietly does her job and continues to do it better and better everyday."
El Houssine was named the tournament's most valuable player after she recorded double-digit kills for the sixth straight match against UCF in Sunday's finale. She averaged 4.2 kills per set last week with a .243 hitting percentage.
The Bulls, winners of four consecutive matches, are back in action this weekend at the Wisconsin InnTowner Challenge. USF faces Wisconsin on Friday at 7 p.m. and Western Michigan on Saturday at 5 p.m.
