The fall practice schedule is fully under way, and I could not be more excited. Between the players, coaches and the new practice facility, there is so much going on with our program right now. It has been great to get back out on the floor and actually be able to coach.
We started working on some team drills and I really like our talent and cohesiveness this year. We are going to be a fun team to watch.
In between practices and classes, our team has had a few unique opportunities over the last few weeks. We have had the chance to volunteer some of our time for something bigger than just basketball.
Last week, our players were involved with Paralympic Sport of Tampa Bay to help out with a wheelchair basketball clinic, and this week we “Walked a Mile in Her Shoes.” The walk helped to benefit a charity to stop rape, sexual assault and gender violence and brought a great deal of awareness to our entire university community.
Our whole team, me included, strapped on some red high heels and joined the walk to help speak out against these terrible things affecting our society. It was a great experience in our kids’ development, but it sure did hurt my feet.
We also had the chance to take in some USF soccer at the Corbett Soccer Stadium. Wow, what a great facility, and a couple of great teams as well. It has been so exciting to see the Athletics District come together over the years and I am really looking forward to it all being completed with the renovations of the Sun Dome.
We are less than a month from the opening game of the 2011-12 season and we cannot wait.
Thanks for reading, and Go Bulls!
