TAMPA - USF's Trey Valentine showed he's not too young to contend with some of the best golfers in the nation.
The freshman finished in a tie for 18th place Friday at the Patriot All-America Invitational in Arizona, 15 shots away from event winner Cory Whitsett.
Valentine's highlight of the tournament came in the second round when he fired a 68. He came back Friday with a solid, even-par 71 to finish the tournament at 1 over after starting with a 75.
Valentine started his USF career by placing fourth in USF's first two events and ending the fall with a fifth-place finish at The Invitational at the Ocean Course in Kiawah Island, S.C., on Oct. 18.
