In the third inning of the contest between No. 2 Florida and Long Island State Friday evening, the mist that was descending steadily upon the USF Softball Stadium turned into a soft rain. Two innings later, in the midst of a five-run fifth-inning rally by the Gators, conditions worsened, forcing play to halt for the evening, and schedules to be re-arranged.
Early Saturday morning however, USF Softball Stadium is in good shape, and play will resume, beginning with the completion of the Florida/Long Island game at 10:30 a.m. The Gators currently lead 7-0. The new schedule reads as follows (home team listed first):
10:30 a.m. - Completion of Long Island vs. Florida
11:15 a.m. - Long Island vs. Florida Gulf Coast
1:30 p.m. - USF vs. Long Island
3:45 p.m. - Maine vs. Florida Gulf Coast
6:00 p.m. - Florida vs. Maine
8:15 p.m. - Florida vs. Illinois State
Sunday's schedule has also been adjusted. It reads (home team listed first):
9:00 a.m. - Maine vs. Long Island
11:15 a.m. - Florida Gulf Coast vs. Illinois State
1:30 p.m. - USF vs. Florida
3:45 p.m. - Florida Gulf Coast vs. Florida
USF was originally scheduled to play Illinois State Saturday as well - that game has been moved to Sunday, Feb. 26 in Clearwater, Fla. The contest will start at 2:45 p.m., as one of the two meetings between those teams this season.
