TAMPA - USF's Loreto Alonso Martinez collected her third Big East Women's Tennis Player of the Week award on Tuesday.
The sophomore posted three singles wins and a doubles victory during a four-match weekend for the Bulls at the USF Varsity Courts.
Alonso Martinez definitely worked hard to post a 3-0 singles record in the No. 2 spot in the Bulls' lineup. She took care of Georgia State's Tereza Lerova, 7-5, 6-3, and notched another straight-set win over Marquette's Olga Fischer, 7-6, 6-4, to secure the match point for USF.
Her week also featured a memorable comeback when she dropped the first set against UNC-Wilmington's Olga Blank, 3-6, but roared back to take the next two sets, 6-2, 6-1.
USF hits the road this weekend to face Notre Dame 3:30 p.m. Friday before taking a short trip over to Chicago to face DePaul at noon on Sunday. The two matches will end USF's regular season and the Bulls will be back at home April 19-22 to host the Big East Championships.
