TAMPA - Ecaterina Vasenina's special season of tennis will continue at the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships.
Vasenina, ranked No. 44 in the country, became an at-large selection for the tournament after posting a 17-7 singles record this spring at USF's No. 1 position after going 9-3 in the fall. The junior recently made the All-Big East team for the second straight season after helping the Bulls make the finals at the Big East Championships in Tampa.
"She's beaten some opponents that have been in the top 20. It's well deserved," head coach Agustin Moreno said.
Among Vasenina's memorable singles victories this season were a straight set win over No. 15 Anna Bartenstein of Miami in January and a three-set triumph over No. 36 Cristina Stancu of Maryland.
Singles competition at the NCAA Division I Women's Tennis Championships takes place May 23-28 at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the University of Georgia campus in Athens. The matches are in a best-of-three format.
