TAMPA - Sara Nevins and Janine Richardson represented the Bulls well at the Women's College World Series and now they have a chance to represent the entire country.
USF's stars and 18 other standouts from across the United States have accepted an invitation to try out for the 2012 USA Softball Women's National Team and have been in action this week in Ashland, Ohio.
Team USA currently has five remaining spots left on its roster and selections will be announced Wednesday. Players who don't get picked for the squad will make up the 2012 USA Softball Women's Elite National Team that faces Team USA in exhibition play.
Nevins was in the running for the national player of the year award for most of the season and ended up becoming a second-team All-American for her work in the circle. USF's ace left-hander went 31-8 as a sophomore with a 1.12 earned run average. Nevins struck out 336 batters in 256 innings while opponents hit only .184 against her.
Richardson tied for the team lead with seven homers as a senior. The former Auburndale High School star hit .294 with 29 RBIs and became an All-Big East second-team selection.
