TAMPA - The University of South Florida men’s basketball team will officially return to campus and the brand new Sun Dome on Saturday, Nov. 10, when it hosts the University of Central Florida in the season opener. The Bulls and Knights will face off in the newly christened building on the front end of a home-and-home series with UCF that will feature a game in Orlando on January 2, 2013.
“What an exciting way to open a brand new building with a future BIG EAST opponent in UCF,” said Heath. “This should be an exciting game that will feature great talent. We expect our fans to fill the seats and give us the energy to provide an electric and memorable season opener.”
The Bulls, who played at three different venues during the 2011-12 season, recently capped off their most successful year in program history by reaching the third round of the NCAA Championship. USF matched its school record for wins in a season by going 22-14 and made it to its first NCAA Tournament in 20 years (1991-92) led by 2011-12 BIG EAST Coach of the Year Stan Heath.
The Knights advanced to the first round of the NIT a year ago finishing with an overall record of 22-11 and will return a majority of their roster for the 2012-13 season. UCF is slated to join the BIG EAST Conference for the 2013-14 season in all sports.
The full USF non-conference slate will be released on a future date along with game times.
