TAMPA - Andrew Longley didn't get drafted this year, but that hasn't stopped him from making an impact in the pros.
USF's former catcher signed a free agent contract with the Detroit Tigers and has had success in 12 games with the Gulf Coast League (rookie) Tigers. Longley is batting .297 (11-for-37) with four doubles and nine runs batted in.
Longley capped off his USF career by finishing second on the team in home runs with six in 2012. The Tampa native logged in 48 starts this past season and headed to the pro level with 116 collegiate starts to his credit.
Four players from USF's 2012 squad are playing for a pro team in the minors this summer.
