TAMPA - The Bulls made a great first impression on new head coach Matt Hill.
The USF men's tennis team won four of its seven singles matches after taking three out of five in doubles in the initial rounds of the Bedford Cup on Friday at the University of Florida.
"I was proud of my guys today for how they competed and supported each other as a team," Hill said.
The duo of Guillermo De Vilchez and Oliver Pramming won twice by 8-2 margins and will face Florida Mike Alford and Florent Diep in Saturday's quarterfinals. De Vilchez also advanced in singles by defeating Stetson's Didrick Berg, 6-2, 6-4.
Juan Carlos Acuna Gerard also posted two wins, starting with an 8-2 doubles victory with teammate Federico Sabogal. Acuna Gerard showed his endurance in singles by outlasting Stetson's Cahit Kapukiran, 4-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Saturday's action begins with singles competition that starts at 9 a.m. Quarterfinal matches get going at 4 p.m. at Linder Stadium at Ring Tennis Complex.
